What is IATF 16949:2016?

IATF 16949:2016 is an international Automotive QMS standard and was jointly developed by the International Automotive Task Force members and submitted to ISO for approval and publication.

The standard comprises of requirements based on the ISO 9001 and also the customer-specific requirements from the automotive industry. The standard focuses on the development of QMS that is process-oriented and helps in continual improvement, effect prevention, variation, and waste reduction in the supply chain. The goal of this standard is to meet the customer-specific requirements in an effective and efficient manner.

If you would like to know who the ITAF is, they are a group of manufacturers and trade associations of the automotive group formed to provide enhanced quality products to their customers across the globe.

All the organizations that are registered for IATF are added to the IATF website. This site comprises the information of the certificate that can be verified at any stage. Any organization that manufactures products or supplies components to the automotive industry can get certified to IATF standard. Any individual can become IATF Auditor. They have to get the necessary training from a recognized organization and get their certification from a reputed registrar or certification body.

Where to get IATFLead Auditor Training?

The IATF Lead Auditor training is usually conducted for five days. Though the requirements for ISO 9001 has been removed from IATF 16949 and it is published as a separate standard, IATF is not a standalone standard and must be used in conjunction with the QMS ISO 9001.
